Founded by Yong Koon, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur in 1885, Royal Selangor holds a Royal Warrant and is regarded as a foremost name in quality pewter.
The story
From a tin-mining town to the world’s tables
In 1885 the pewtersmith Yong Koon left Shantou for Kuala Lumpur, then a tin-mining boomtown, and began crafting pewter by hand.
The family business became Selangor Pewter, received the Royal Pewterer warrant from the Sultan of Selangor in 1979, and took the name Royal Selangor in 1992. It is still headquartered in Kuala Lumpur.
